How a place gets onto the wheel
MakanDNA does not simply throw every nearby listing into a spinner. A place first has to be eligible for the current decision: the selected area, meal timing and any filters you choose.
Timing matters
Now uses recently checked opening-hour data. Planned meals such as Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Supper use meal-service tags, with stored opening hours applied where available. Because businesses can change hours at short notice, Google Maps or the venue remains the final check before travelling.
Dessert is not dinner
Dessert-only places are kept out of ordinary meal results unless the user is actually asking for dessert. The same principle applies to other suitability rules: the goal is a useful decision, not merely a technically random one.
Random means random
Once the eligible pool is built, each eligible place has the same chance of being selected by the current randomisation logic. Sponsored offers do not buy a better chance of winning a spin.
Local and independent places
We want useful local discovery, including smaller independent businesses and hawkers, alongside well-known chains. Inclusion is not a paid ranking.
Freshness and corrections
Restaurant information changes. MakanDNA stores verification dates where available and provides a correction flow so stale or incorrect entries can be investigated and updated.

Halal status
The Halal filter shows outlets we have marked as halal-certified. Certification is premises-specific and can change. For an important dietary decision, verify the current outlet in the official MUIS directory.
